Abstract

It is well known that significant sampling errors are always involved in estimating the spillway design storm floods by the method of frequency analysis with limited streamflow records. For many streams the occurrence of a new great flood would lead to a significant change in the original design values thus computed. However, defects of this kind may be apparently made up if the design flood is com- puted by referring to the data of several great historical floods, of which the discharge and rare occurrence are obtained with good reliability. Our work and some understanding in this respect are presented briefly in this paper.
